Growing Sustainable Stems - Stage 3

Gardens in the city offer solutions to real world problems of biodiversity loss, pollution, a warming environment , fresh food supplies, well being and many more benefits with limited space.  Students will undertake the first 3 steps of the Design Process examining plants that thrive in the cities, participating in hands on exploration and construction of sustainable school garden designs and developing a garden design plan and pitch to put forward to your school Principal!  
 

Learning Activities

  • Learn about the amazing benefits of gardens to our cities and undertake the design process addressing the challenge of sustainable garden design for your school considering site opportunities, limitations and local environmental issues 
  • Examine and build sustainable urban garden designs in the Botanic Gardens, learning about the design features and the plants that flourish in them. 
  • ​Create a garden design concept for your school and an eye-catching poster to pitch your design to your school Principal!
