Approximately 70% of Australia is classed as arid or semi arid. This type of environment can include grasslands, heath, tall shrubs and sandy/rocky areas.
Found in areas of less fertile soils than tropical/subtropical rainforest. Common trees include coachwood and sassafras.
Cumberland Plain Woodland
This endangered ecological community is found on clay soils and has an open tree canopy, a groundcover of grasses/herbs and shrubs.
Tropical/subtropical rainforests occur on fertile soils. Plants tend to have large, soft, green leaves and the dominant ground cover is ferns.
