Blue Mountains Bats

We're going bats at the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden! Come along to this fun, family-friendly evening to meet a bat, take part in a fun bat quiz, play games and go on a rare after-hours tour to look for nocturnal wildlife in the Garden!

The night is packed with bat-themed fun:

Meet a bat! Have a close encounter with a Flying Fox.

Q&A Where do bats live? How do they navigate and hunt? What are some of the differences between micro-bats and flying foxes? All your batty questions will be answered by Blue Mountains ecologist Marg Turton and Science Communicator Vanessa Barratt.

Ultra-sonic Games Do you have super-human hearing? Can you hear a bat-call? We'll be using our electronic 'chirper' to listen to the calls of different kinds of bats. We'll also play a game of track-the-bat using our bat-detectors!

Bat Quiz! Who will be crowned the Bat Quiz Champ? Everyone can join in! Test your bat-knowledge and win some batty prizes.

Videos We'll be watching some cool videos of bats in action.

Spotlight Prowl With torches and bat-detectors in hand, we'll head out into the night! We'll be taking a rare guided spotlight prowl to look for micro-bats and other wildlife in the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden.

This event is part of the wider ‘Australasian Bat Night’ event program, designed to debunk the myths and fears associated with bats, and demonstrate how better conservation measures can not only help protect our native bats but also assist people to live alongside our nocturnal neighbours!

This event is suitable for Adults and Children 8 years and over (must be accompanied by an adult).
Light refreshments will be offered.

This event is proudly supported by Inspiring Australia.
