Frequently Asked Questions

For wedding ceremonies, hire includes use of your chosen location for 3 hours. This includes set-up and pack-down time.

Wedding photography at your ceremony site (this must be completed within the 3hour booking).

Signage informing the public that the area is going to be used for a wedding will be placed nearby.

Please note the Wedding Tree Terrace is the only venue that is an exclusive hire for ceremonies. For all other areas, be these are non-exclusive hires and we cannot exclude the public from these areas during your ceremony.

Each venue has a maximum capacity that can found on its detail page. We recommend that you inspect the sites to ensure you are comfortable that your preferred area is well suited for the size of your group.

Your wedding ceremony can include up to two (2) tables, seating for 35 guests, bridal arch, floral display and carpet or runner.

Please note Garden regulations to not permit the attachment of decorations, balloons, signage, banners or other items to trees, buildings, heritage features or other fixed structures.

Vehicles are not permitted off-road, therefore all furniture and equipment must be carried to the ceremony venue. A Garden ranger escort can be organised for a fixed duration at an additional fee.

Please note no food or drink is to be sold at the Garden.

No. Stages and podiums are not permitted.

Petals are permitted, but must be cleaned up after your ceremony.

Throwing of confetti, glitters, sprays, poppers and rice is not permitted.

Power is available at certain venues. Please call our friendly staff on (02) 4567 3000 for more details.

You may used a low-volume, battery-powered portable speaker or amplifier for the wedding celebrant. Please position speakers towards your ceremony to minimise the impact on other Garden users.

You may have a live acoustic ensemble of up to four (4) people or low-volume, pre-recorded music.

Please note bagpipes, drums, pianos and other amplification systems (electric guitars or keyboards) are not permitted.

Fire and/or flames are not permitted. This includes fires used for cooking (e.g. wood-fired pizza ovens).

Yes.

The Garden is a public garden, and other activities may be occurring at the same time as your ceremony. The public will be notified of your wedding via signage however we cannot guarantee exclusive hire of outdoor venues, except the Wedding Tree Terrace.

A designated car park will be reserved for the wedding party and your guests. Please follow the instructions of the Garden ranger on the day.

A coach parking bay is available. Please notify the Garden when making your venue booking that your party/guests will be arriving by bus.

The Garden closes to all vehicles each night. If a car has broken down, or cannot otherwise be moved due to mechanical fault, you should notify the Garden ranger on 0428 118 563 in order to avoid a fine.

You will need to order a taxi using your own mobile phones. If you are stuck, please go to the Visitor Centre which operates from 9.30 am to 4.30pm every day.

There are no permanently sheltered wedding ceremony venues at the Garden.

A wet weather back up is included in the cost of your venue hire fee that you can also book. Please note if you do not book the wet weather backup along with your ceremony venue, we cannot guarantee availability on the day.

Due to the wildlife that call the Garden home, domestic pets are not permitted in the Garden.

Registered assistance dogs are welcome.

The Garden accepts payment for your wedding booking via:

  • Cash at the Visitor Centre.
  • Through invoice.
  • Credit card (MasterCard and Visa) over the phone or at the Visitor Centre.

Once your booking application has been received, our staff will be in contact with you to organise payment.

If you wish to cancel your booking, a request must be made in writing by emailing tomah@rbgsyd.nsw.gov.au.

In the event of cancellation, the follow fees will be retained by the Garden:

  • Cancellations received more than one (1) month prior to your booking will receive a 50 per cent refund of any monies paid.
  • Cancellations received less than one (1) month prior to your booking will not be given a refund.

We accept bookings up to 18 months in advance.
